Music Ministry

The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.

Our mission at St. Albert the Great is to create music that lifts hearts and minds to the divine while reflecting beauty and majesty, using the gifts God has bestowed upon us. We would love to have you share your time and talents with the Church. We work hard, but we also have a lot of fun! Please consider joining any of the following groups. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Nicki Ehred at .

St. Cecilia Choir– Named after the patron saint of music, this choir welcomes singers of all different skill sets and talents. Weekly rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.(STARTING October 15), and we meet before Mass at 8:30 a.m. on Sundays in the social hall to warm up. We sing at the 9:00 a.m. Liturgy every Sunday morning as well as Christmas Midnight Mass, Holy Week, and Easter Masses. Hymns from the Glory and Praise make up the majority of our selections. Qualifications: high school age or older, willing to support our service with prayer, practice at home, hard work at rehearsals; able to sing in tune and attend most rehearsals. Music reading ability is a plus, BUT NOT REQUIRED.

St. Gregory the Great Choir: Named after the patron saint of Gregorian Chant, this vocal group is slightly smaller. Weekly rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm, and we meet before Mass at 10:15 a.m. on Sundays to warm up. We sing at the 11:00 am Mass every Sunday as well as Christmas Day and some Holy Days. Our musical repertoire incorporates a wide variety of musical genres: contemporary praise and worship, Gregorian Chant, traditional hymns, etc.

Qualifications: high school age or older, willing to support our service with prayer, practice at home, hard work at rehearsals; able to sing in tune, blend, learn music well, and attend most rehearsals. Some music reading ability is necessary. Because most members of this group sing individually on a microphone, a very brief private audition is required prior to attending first rehearsal. See Nicki’s contact information above.

St. Nicholas Choir: Named after the patron saint of children, this vocal group is a new venture in the music ministry department. We are calling all youth, ages 3rd-8th grade to participate in our Christmas Eve Liturgy. Rehearsal would be short and either after 11:00 am Mass OR after Religious Education on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. (whichever works best for those involved) We would simply choose a few songs to sing for the 5:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass. If your child is interested in participating please email Nicki Ehred.
